The Balancing Act

You found an art/career you love and you work at it - a LOT, because you love it.  Have you stopped to look back at your life to see what impact it is having on others?  Do you have peace and balance?

It's great to put everything you have into something to get yourself started - to get "out there", but as time goes by, have you noticed your impact on others?  On yourself?  Are you getting burned out?  Is this thing you love affecting your family and friends?

Its important when you take on any new adventure to evaluate what you want from it and put an appropriate amount of time and money towards it.  Its also just as important to re-evaluate things every now and again. How are things working out for you?  Are you meeting your goals?.  Whats next?  How is this new career or hobby affecting your personal life?  What changes do you need to make?

We are all in different places.  Some of us work full time and consider acting a part-time job (that's me). After almost 3 years of  burning the candle at both ends (full time job, part time job, family, friends, classes, film, commercials)  I realized I was tired.  My family was tired.  Are you affecting your relationships?  I still LOVE what I do!  Yikes. So, what's the next step?

This is a good time to ask others in your life how your choices are affecting them.  Don't ask them if they support you, of course they do - your happy and they want you to be happy.  But do ask them if your choices are negatively affecting them in any way.  Have them be 100% honest. If so, its time to re-evaluate. I came to this fork in the road and had to drop a few things off my plate.  I dropped a lot of my film projects. I no longer have an agent so I don't feel pressured to audition when I don't have time, and I don't apply for every job, just because it's paid.

What I needed was most of my weekends back, so I did what it took and I got them back.  It was pretty easy actually, I just had to take the first step.  Yes, I disappointed a few people at first, but they understood. The more important thing is -- I have found balance in my life, I am happier and I have found my peace. I encourage you to do the same.  Find your peace, find your balance.

Wishing all of you the very best in your art and your career.  Nameste....
